35th Annual KISS Chili Cook Off: “Over the last 34 years some of the biggest names in Nashville have headlined KISS Country 99.9 Chili Cook Off and this year, to celebrate our 35th anniversary we’re bringing you two headliners for the price of one! Mindful Games for Children 5-10: “Dreamcatchers for the Soul has developed fun interactive games to help our children play mindfully. Children will discover group activities and awareness practices. Children will learn how to breathe, body scan, make peace with the voices in their head without any judgement. They will also learn to self-regulate, practice the pause and to just let things be. The Practice of the mirror game will be explored, and they will learn the importance of paying attention, to focus and retain information. Improvisation will also be a part of the games so that children can learn, how to deal with real life situation. Various thumballs will be used that pose valuable questions dealing with real life challenges such as anger. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Celebration at Sunrise Civic Center and Aquatics Center: “Join us on January 19th for a full day of art and culture honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre and Art Gallery! Features include: 📣 Youth Poetry Workshop from 9:30am to 1:30 pm—This intensive poetry-writing workshop is open to students age 13 to 18. Each poet will receive breakfast, lunch, a t-shirt, a book, and writing supplies– and will view the City’s 2:00 p.m. screening of “Race.” There is no cost to participate, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Picnic in the Park at Deering Estate: “Spend a relaxing day with your family and friends at the Deering Estate! Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the main lawn, explore the grounds and take a guided tour of the historic houses and natural areas.
